On Fri. Oct. 26, Daegu’s Nam-gu government has booked off Anjirang Gopchang Alley for a Zombie Run! We’ll have Chopstickswide booths at the base of the street, located just a few minutes walk east of Exit 3 of Anjirang Station on Subway Line 1. Booths will have staff ready to paint zombie faces, while we will also have another booth set up for doing Halloween STEM crafts and activities with our EcoSTEAM teachers, plus another booth selling non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages in vinyl blood bags with straws. The festivities on this day with be from 3pm-7pm. Zombie run starts at 5pm, however, so come early and we can paint you up as zombies! Anjirang Gopchang Alley can be found at Daemyeong-ro 36-gil, Daemyeong 9(gu)-dong, Nam-gu, Daegu. Zombie Run is RSVP only as we need to plan for supplies and makeup. If possible, please give us a rough headcount by this Sunday night!
On Sat. Oct. 27, the Halloween festivities takes us to Daemyeong Cafe Street, which is the main coffee strip north of Exit 2 of Hyeonchungno Station on Line 1. The festivities run from 2pm-8pm. If coming north from the station, you will find a public parking lot on the right side (west side) where you will see find our main Chopstickwide and Namgu tents. This is where you will need to check in for our trick or treating event that will get underway from 5pm, however, we please ask for people to come early to get oriented with the festival location and trick or treating zone. We have 86 businesses, cafes and venues that will be handing out candy and we want to make sure you have our maps and an understanding about safety precautions for the event. Yes, that’s right. 86 places giving out candy! We’ll have them listed on a map! But you need to be wearing a costume when you show up at these places!
From 2pm-3pm, we also will have pumpkin carving contest going on (RSVP only due to limited pumpkins), a contest for best Halloween costume with cash prizes for winners and runners-up! (total cash prizes amount to 400,000won for pumpkin carving winners and runners-up, and 400,000won for best costume winners and runners-up). After that event, please feel free to enjoy the other booths and flea market but be back at the ChopsticksWide tent at 4:30pm to get final instructions about trick or treating!
Note: We have about 7 participating businesses along Daemyeong Cafe Street, as well as 30+ booths and kiosks that will be giving out candy to trick-or-treaters. We kept all these close together for young ones to go around to. However, we have another 30 participating business on nearby Anjirang Gopchang Alley which requires a 5-10 min walk. Those places have all stocked up on candy. We will have digital maps sent to your phones for where to go. There are also about 20 other participating businesses throughout the area between the Damyeong Cafe Zone and Gopchang Alley Zone. So if your younger ones are easy to tire, stay in the Cafe Zone and collect candy. If Cafe Zone runs out of candy or if your kids don’t mind walking to Gopchang Alley Zone, then head there also.
And we’ll be selling clip-on blood bags with yummy juice for kids or bloody mojitos for mom and dad!
Additionally, Daegu YWCA and Daegu Compass will be operating loads of tables for a flea market along the street which will make for some interesting browsing and shopping fun! (20 flea market vendors scheduled for Friday at Gopchang Alley and 60 vendors scheduled for Sat along Daemyeong Cafe Street)
Plus they’ve got a shuttle bus hooking people up with the festival from various locations around Camp George, Camp Walker and subway stations in Nam-gu.
There’s so much going on, so it’s important to email us and make sure you leave a phone number to get real-time updates and maps via SMS, Kakao and Facebook! See below for booking and update info!
PS, for families who send their kids to our STEAM workshops on Saturdays, please note that we will still be having an EcoSTEAM workshop on Oct. 27 at our iACT campus, but will be taking our bus to the Halloween Festival to finish our workshop at our ChopsticksWide/EcoSTEAM tent where we will do some Halloween-related STEAM crafts, before the trick or treating gets underway!
